Metro is making changes. As we move toward our new vision for public transportation, we are striving to build a highly productive transit system that gets people where they want to go, leveraging the most value for riders out of every dollar spent on transit. This fall we’re suggesting changes that will increase available connections, reduce duplications in service, create more direct routes, and simplify the system.
Some of these changes are designed to restructure parts of the transit system in order to improve its efficiency and effectiveness. Restructures may be prompted by a variety of events, including the start of new RapidRide lines, changes in travel patterns or ridership, new developments and employment centers, major transportation network changes, or the need to reduce duplication in services that overlap or provide similar connections.
In the coming months, we’ll be in a conversation with the public about a set of proposed system improvements that affect communities in the cities of Seattle, Burien, Des Moines, Shoreline, SeaTac, and Tukwila.

What happens next
After our fall 2011 conversation with the public, Metro will consider all feedback in developing a proposal that will be available for review in early 2012. A final recommendation will be sent to King County Council for consideration in April 2012. Changes approved by the Council will take place in 2012.
