Public hearing to consider transit changes

The King County Council’s Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee will take public comments on proposed changes to Metro bus service in Bellevue, Redmond, Clyde Hill, Medina, and South Kirkland at a hearing on April 12.

The hearing will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mercer Island Community Center (8236 SE 24th Street, Mercer Island – see map).

The proposed changes would coincide with the launch of the RapidRide B Line, and are intended to improve connections among the B Line and other Metro and Sound Transit routes. The changes would also improve connections with major shopping and employment centers and schools.

However, some routes would be discontinued so Metro can use scarce resources more effectively. Riders of routes that are discontinued would have other transit options available.

  1. So how many bus riders from the areas affected came to that meeting…held in a community UNaffected by the changes, in a place not easily reached by public transportation?!

Why does Metro do this–all. the. time?!

  2. Actually, Metro didn’t do it – the hearing was arranged by the King County Council’s Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee.

About 50 people attended the hearing to learn more about the proposal and provide testimony.

In addition to the council hearing, there were two rounds of public workshops in both Bellevue and Redmond to provide info and gather feedback from the community on the various route alternatives.
